I had that horrible empty feeling you get when you finish a really good book. Then a quick search showed there’s a sequel. Hurray! I’m going to download BLOOD the minute I’ve finished typing this. There’s a lot I want to say about Marcus Green but I don’t want to give the ending of Burn, baby burn away. Difficult. (As Dexter might say.) I had a quick glance at some of the other reviews and I just hope the reader who had a few problems with the start carries on reading. This book, like all the best books (in my opinion) starts slowly but gains momentum steadily as the story progresses. With BBB (the first book I’ve read all the way through on Kindle) the pace doesn’t just gain momentum, I became so engrossed I couldn’t put it down. I had been reading it in small chunks, frustrated because I normally read in the bath, and the fact I couldn’t read in the bath was the only negative thing I’d found with my Kindle. Then I became so immersed (sorry, no pun intended) it gripped me so tight I had to take it into the bath with me. Thankfully, the Kindle survived the steam and I was able to read and relax at the same time. Or that was my intention, but this isn’t that sort of book. This book stopped my breath in places, and I had to read it with one eye covered, fingers over my mouth in disgust? amazement? terror? Not sure what it was but this writer’s imagination is incredible. It was a riveting story full of twists and unpredictable turns where I read about things I’d never imagined. But among a fair bit of thrilling gore the relationships between the characters was gradually being built. Donna – a bit of an enigma to me, a modern sort of girl, appealing, with hidden vulnerability but a hard edge; Dexter – an ex copper and a likeable chap, very moral and trustworthy. Marcus Green – evil personified, and that doesn’t say enough. Kate – I really hope I get to know her better in BLOOD – she intrigued me. Gary – the less about him the better, Donna’s well out of it.
I’ve finished it. What shall I read next? Oh, yes … I’m going straight to Blood. Keep ‘em coming, Jake Barton, whoever you are.
PS. I am not a family member and I am not a personal friend. I’ve never met the writer. This is my first review because I have a new Kindle, and at the end of the book it alerts you to come here and right a review. Which I have done. I enjoyed doing that and might write some more reviews.

well whoever that was has bloody good taste in reading material – oh, and the author isn’t bad either! x
Wow! You’ve got to feel good about that.
Good for you, Jake.
Awesome review, Jake! Congrats, and very much deserved!
